Did you know that persistent heartburn can be a symptom of oesophageal cancer? Heartburn Cancer UK works to raise awareness of the link between persistent heartburn and both oesophageal cancer and a pre-cancerous condition called Barrett’s oesophagus. Oesophageal cancer is the sixth biggest cancer killer in the UK, with approximately 8000 deaths every year. However, because only 2% of the population are aware of the early symptoms, it is often diagnosed too late, meaning that less than 15% of sufferers survive for 5 years. With your help we can continue to spread the life-saving message that if heartburn is present for more than three weeks it should be discussed with a GP. Early Diagnosis WILL save lives!
