Friends of PICU

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Southampton General Hospital is the regional centre for the South of England and the Channel Islands. It is a purpose built unit, with 16 beds. More 1,000 children are admitted each year from either the emergency department or from other hospitals with complex serious illnesses. As a unit they deal with children who have suffered massive trauma (following accidents) or those diagnosed with serious illnesses or tiny babies with heart disease. Friends of PICU play a vital part by raising funds to maintain the high level of care given by the unit, through purchasing new life saving equipment as well as the upkeep of the family accommodation which is about to undergo refurbishment.
